Your carpet, professionally fitted

Carpet fitting only for customer-supplied carpet

Carpet fitting only separates the carpet purchase from its installation. If you have bought a roll yourself, the fitting plan still needs to cover room dimensions, underlay, gripper and doorway finishes. We fit carpet you have bought elsewhere, at a clear per-room rate. Arrange a free visit before settling the installation so the material and the room can be considered together.

Planning the installation

Check the supplied carpet against the room

A receipt and an approximate room area do not establish whether a carpet piece will fit. Roll width, alcoves, the doorway and the direction of the pile affect the cutting plan. Have the product name and the dimensions of the piece available when discussing the job. If the carpet has not yet been ordered, measuring first helps you buy the quantity the room actually needs.

Carpet comes in four- and five-metre rolls, so width matters when planning the cut. A piece with enough total area can still be the wrong shape for a room. Discuss any planned join before fitting day rather than assuming every offcut can be used anywhere. The material plan comes before cutting, not after the carpet has been spread out.

Planning the installation

Agree what is supplied with the fitting

Fitting-only does not automatically describe who supplies the underlay, gripper or door bars. Those are separate parts of a complete carpet installation and should be agreed in the written quotation. If you already have them, explain what you have bought. If you need them supplied, include that in the conversation before comparing a labour figure with a supply-and-fit package.

Underlay affects the feel and support of the carpet. A soft bedroom specification is a different decision from a busy stair route. Existing gripper and the condition around the room edges need checking too. The aim is a clear fitting specification for the carpet you own, rather than treating the new covering as the only item that matters.

Planning the installation

Inspect the floor beneath the old covering

Carpet can go over sound floorboards, but loose boards and uneven areas should be considered before they are covered. Secure loose boards and use an overlay where the surface needs it. Tell us what is on the floor now and whether the old carpet and underlay will still be in place at the survey.

Uplift and disposal should also be agreed. A fitting-only request may start with an empty base or with an occupied room that still has its old carpet. Those are different starting conditions. Discuss ordinary furniture, access and clearing fragile belongings so the quotation describes the work you need rather than leaving those practical details until installation.

Planning the installation

Treat stairs and landings as a separate material plan

A staircase is not measured like a flat bedroom. Treads, risers and turning steps need their own cuts, and the landing has to be considered alongside the flight. If your purchased carpet is intended for stairs, identify the construction and the available dimensions before agreeing the fit. Our stair service explains full-width fitting and the alternative of a runner.

A runner also brings width and edge finishing into the plan. Do not assume a spare room offcut automatically provides a suitable finished runner. Explain the appearance you want and what material you have, then use the stair fitting guidance to settle the detail. A clear specification is more useful than comparing an unspecified flat-room rate with a staircase.

Planning the installation

Get the installation scope in writing

The quotation should distinguish the customer-supplied carpet from the fitting and any additional materials. Ask for the agreed rooms, underlay, gripper, thresholds, uplift and preparation to be clear. Our carpet cost guide explains how those items contribute to a finished job without confusing a roll-only advert with complete installation.

Use the enquiry form or call to arrange your free site visit. Keep the carpet details ready for the follow-up conversation. If you are still choosing rather than supplying a purchased roll, the main carpet service offers samples at home and supply and fitting together. Both routes start with the room and its base being assessed.

FAQs

Customer-supplied carpet questions

Can you fit carpet I have purchased elsewhere?

Yes. We fit carpet you have bought elsewhere, at a clear per-room rate. Agree the material dimensions and the installation scope before booking.

Does fitting-only include new underlay?

Agree whether you are supplying underlay or need it supplied, together with gripper and door bars. The quotation should identify those items rather than leave them implicit in the fitting-only label.

Should I order the carpet before measuring?

Measuring and a roll plan help establish the required width and length. If you already own a piece, provide its dimensions and product details so its suitability for the room can be checked.

Can the same request include a landing and stairs?

Discuss them together, with the available carpet dimensions. Stair cuts and turning steps need their own material plan, rather than simply using the area of a flat room.
