Plywood & Screed Subfloor Preparation — Supplied & Fitted Across Kent
Every quality floor starts with a flat, sound subfloor. We lay 6mm or 9mm ply over uneven floorboards and apply self-levelling latex over concrete to give LVT, vinyl and laminate the perfect base to sit on.
Full subfloor prep supply & install
- 6mm / 9mm plywood overlay
- Self-levelling latex screed
- Old floor uplift & disposal
- Damp & moisture readings taken
Best for: Any room before LVT, vinyl or thin-plank laminate.
How a subfloor prep install actually goes
- Step 01Assessment
Boards lifted and tested for damp, level and structural soundness.
- Step 02Ply or screed
6mm/9mm ply over timber, or self-levelling latex screed over concrete — depending on the deflection and finish required.
- Step 03Cure & check
Screed left to cure to manufacturer spec; levels rechecked with a long straight-edge.
- Step 04Hand-over for finish
Subfloor signed off ready for LVT, vinyl or laminate the following day.
Brands & ranges we regularly fit
- WBP 6mm and 9mm plywood (FSC where available)
- Mapei Ultraplan & Ultraplan Eco
- Ardex Feather Finish & K15
- F. Ball Stopgap 1200 Pro
Fitter's tip: Latex screed is rarely 'optional' under LVT — under-prep is the single biggest reason floors fail early.

Subfloor Prep questions
- Do I always need subfloor prep?
- No — over good condition chipboard or a flat screed, often not. But over old floorboards, tiles or uneven concrete, it's essential for LVT and vinyl.
- How long does screed take to dry?
- Standard latex screed is walkable in 2–4 hours and ready for LVT the next day. Deeper screeds need longer — we'll advise on the day.
- Does ply add a lot of height?
- 6mm ply is the standard — barely noticeable at door thresholds. We finish all transitions with proper bars.
