Chevron flooring in luxury vinyl tile
Chevron flooring creates a continuous V from planks with angled ends. It differs from the staggered zig-zag of herringbone, even when the colour and wood effect are similar. For an LVT floor, the format, room layout and prepared base belong in the same decision. JT Flooring brings samples to a free site visit and provides a written quote for supply and fitting.
Choose the pattern before ordering the planks
The defining feature is how the ends meet. Chevron pieces meet point to point, while herringbone uses square-ended rectangles arranged at right angles. You cannot choose an ordinary rectangular plank and assume the resulting floor will have the same appearance as a purpose-cut chevron format. The product has to suit the pattern being planned.
Chevron is one of the laying patterns available in Amtico ranges. Start with the actual range and format rather than treating every wood-effect LVT collection as interchangeable. Bring a picture of the appearance you like to the survey, then compare that with suitable samples and the practical layout for your room.
Look along the room and through its doorways
A patterned floor is read from the doorway as well as from the middle of the room. The main sightline, the way rooms connect and the cuts around the edges affect the finished impression. A sample shows the colour and texture, but the set-out conversation establishes how those individual pieces will read together across the floor.
In a kitchen-diner, discuss the island and the passage into the adjoining space before settling the direction. In a hall, the view from the entrance and the thresholds into other rooms deserve attention. These are the same room-planning decisions that make a patterned installation different from selecting a straight plank solely by its colour.
Give the pattern a suitable foundation
Thin glue-down LVT follows the base beneath it. Old adhesive, uneven concrete and joints in timber boards need inspecting before the decorative finish goes down. Moisture readings are part of that preparation, rather than something to leave until the material has been ordered and the room is ready for fitting.
Concrete may need smoothing or self-levelling compound; timber may need a plywood overlay. The survey identifies what the actual base requires. The finished height also matters at doors and adjoining coverings, so preparation and threshold details should be considered together instead of treating the levelling work as separate from the floor design.
Understand the difference from herringbone
Herringbone gives a broken, staggered line through its square-ended planks. Chevron's angled ends create a more continuous point-to-point arrangement. Neither description tells you which colour is right for your furniture, or which scale works best when the pattern passes through a doorway. Those choices are easier with samples in the room.
If you are still deciding, use our herringbone fitting page alongside the pattern comparison guide. Keeping the two patterns distinct avoids ordering the wrong format on the strength of a photograph. The quote should identify the product and laying pattern, not simply describe everything as patterned wood-effect flooring.
Settle the specification at the free visit
The range, layout, preparation and finish all influence the quotation. Patterned work involves setting out and perimeter cuts, so comparing the price of loose packs alone does not compare complete installations. Ask for the covering, preparation and fitting to be clearly identified in the written quote, with uplift and disposal discussed too.
We supply and fit LVT across Kent and South East London. Samples come to your home, where the colour can be seen beside the existing furniture and skirtings. Contact us with the rooms you are considering, and mention whether the pattern needs to continue between spaces. The visit brings those choices together before ordering.

Your flooring questions
Is chevron the same pattern as herringbone?
No. Chevron uses angled plank ends that meet point to point. Herringbone arranges square-ended rectangles in a staggered zig-zag. The format and set-out need to match the pattern you choose.
Can any LVT plank be used for chevron?
Choose a format intended for the selected laying pattern. Chevron options are available within Amtico ranges; the exact collection and pieces should be agreed before ordering.
Does a chevron floor need preparation?
The base for glue-down LVT must be sound, dry and suitably flat. We assess moisture and existing surfaces, then specify smoothing or plywood preparation where the surveyed floor needs it.
How do I choose between the two patterns?
Compare the plank format, colour and view through your room. Samples help with appearance; the survey considers the sightline, adjoining rooms and cuts so the pattern choice becomes a complete flooring plan.
